With NO SLEEP, drama, endless days and nights of sewing, support of family, friends, and fans, the event was a great sucess! On behalf of Kelvin and myself, I want to thank everyone who came out to support us and see our new lines. We have already taken orders and generated much interest in our respective lines Strangefruit and Pour Couture. There are more shows to come in the future to please stay tuned.
I would also like to take this opportunity to thank:
Dara King of Thread Beauty Bar for allowing us to host our event at her great open space. I made an appointment to get my eyebrows Threaded (if that is the correct term) this monday. I wish her continued success
Robin Wallace and Melinda Gonzalez for this wonderful candid photo montage of the show. And their great support and friendship
Carrie Robinson for working the door, several trips to CVS and Kinkos.
Ed the DJ.
Jamellah for doing so much for us, steaming the clothes dressing the models, and helping to maintain order
Kelvin's nieces (I'm sorry I can't remember all your names) but you worked really hard and you all are beautiful young ladies.
Miss Sky (former model extroidinare) for cutting fruit, cheese, directing, and just being you.
Charles Bears of Showcase Multimedia for video coverage (coming soon)
Kane for making a day trip from Atlanta, Georgia to support us. and pitching in at the buffet table.
Our wonderful models. You all were terrific! Especially Marlena Robinson for coordinating, helping with casting, mentoring the younger girls and being overall fierce and efficient! Thank you so much.
Donal Robinson of Sow Productions for taking the time to mix my music.
Toni Leatherberry for her contribution and support
Last but not least, Our Family:
Thanks to Kelvin's sister Marva for coming all the way from Atlanta, Georgia to see Kelvin's show. Annd getting to finally meet another extension of my family
Kim, Kelvin's other sister, for helping us pick up chairs. And helping navigate through Jersey.
Harold and Yvonne Haskins, my parents who have always giving me much love and support. And Mom for baking that terrific cake that Kelvin has raved about since Christmas brunch.
Harold SImms, my wonderful fiance, for chopping tomatoes, garlic, basil, and mozarella in preparation for one of my infamous salads; being my driver and the love of my life. I can now put away the sewing machine (for a minute) and cook for you again.
Leola Hubbard for introducing Kelvin and me. This has truly been a great partnership.
Last but not least, I want to thank Kelvin for being so patient with me (as a first timer to sewing) in my first show and being an inspiration and tour de Force! He has been most generous.
I know this isn't the Oscars but the day was a momentous occasion. I only wish Mimi, my grandmother, were here to share this experience with me as she was a great seamtress. An interesting note about Mimi was that she was accepted to Parsons School of Design on a full scholarship at age 16. However, during that time segregation and racial discrimnation, the family did not want her to be that far away from home, Atlanta. Hence, maybe I am picking up where she left off. I know she is with me in spirit.
If we forgot to thank anyone, please do not take offense. We haven't slept in a very long time.
For those of you who could not make it, please stay tuned for events to come and updates as to where you can purchase our gear. A lot of you were asking where you could buy our lines.
It was a great afternoon. And a great entree for me. . .
Yours Truly
